Grubbs

Brighton of course. In this case 62 Western Rd. Hove actually. Dying to say that.

  • Purpose:     Burger assessment

  • Good for:    Nostalgia

  • Verdict:       Ahh the 1980s. Good for some, less so for others. In terms of burgers, as Grubbs hasn't changed, there must be something good. I'm not sure what it is. The burger was OK, but nothing special, ordinary meat, bun, cheese, lettuce. I'm sure the '80s were more exciting. I'm probably wrong. There is a great choice of burgers on offer, so I can only assume that the sauces/toppings are what Brighton (& Hove) folk love about their burger. Also a bit '80s. Nice crispy fries. No beer.

  • Burger:       1980s in a bun

Burger Off

52 Brunswick Street, Hove. I know, why did I call this Brighton Special?

  • Purpose:     Burger Assessment

  • Good for:    Chilli related death

  • Verdict:       Unbelievably the second 1980s burger experience in a row. Perhaps I'm being harsh, as both Grubbs & Burger Off are in Hove, so maybe associating Brighton with this trait is unfair and it's more a Hove thing actually. Average meat, bun, lettuce. Average chips. No beer. Maybe my problem is that I have the Cheeseburger for consistency of product review; the popularity appears to be around multiple patty burgers, and/or the amusement afforded by people (or lunatics) attempting the XXX Chilli Burger.

  • Burger:       Nothing to send a postcard home about.

  • Cost:            £
