Brighton Burger

11A Market St, Brighton BN1 1HH (South Lanes). Not Hove. Actually. I know, can't stop myself.

  • Purpose:     Burger Assessment

  • Good for:    Stress relief

  • Verdict:       Thank the Lord, a burger worth travelling for. Nice but, soft & chewy around a nicely cooked piece of beef (other meats available), and complimentary cheese/sauce. Small selection of other flavours. Good portion of crispy fries. No beer. The third burger hits the spot nicely, I don't understand how there isn't more appreciation of this compact but bijou burger joint, they are a cut above most burger options in Brighton.

  • Burger:       Lovely.

Burgers & Cocktails

15 North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YA. Finally controlled myself.

  • Purpose:     Burger Assessment

  • Good for:    Showing Corporates aren't all bad

  • Verdict:       Our target location was closed for a wedding, gits, so we wandered over the road to a Giraffe sub-brand, despite my aversion to reviewing chains. Not an unhappy experience, not that I'd expect one in Byrons/GBK etc, where burgers are all pretty good, so I wasn't surprised. Enjoyed the service, the burger was OK (bun, cheese and sauces tasted better than the patty, which was a bit bland), skin on fries better than normal, and finally - beer, some nice choices from the approved corporate craft beer list. Several other burger options which looked OK.

  • Burger:       Fair enough.

  • Cost:            ££

Burger Brothers

North Road, Brighton. On a different day....

  • Purpose:     Burger Assessment

  • Good for:    Division

  • Verdict:       Average, in my opinion, very, very good in my wife's opinion. Burger was medium-medium well, not really tasty, but nice consistency, in a good bun with anonymous cheese and home sauce (mayo/ketchup). Overall OK, but not brilliant, and definitely not worth the advertising as "Britain's best burger", possibly Brighton's best, but that's not saying a great deal given the limited tastings I've had in Brighton so far. No fries and no beer.

  • Burger:        Hmmmm....
