Apple's Burger Blog
I love burgers. This is a record of my burger eats for posterity, for when I inevitably die of burger related disease and/or obesity. Enjoy Apple's burger reviews, enjoy burgers more (responsibly of course)
Let this be a tasty warning. Enjoy !

Burger Shack @ The Royal Oak

Purpose: Burger Assessment

Good for: Botham-like Beefiness

Verdict: Very welcoming table service pub, tipping in pubs - whatever next, with a nice range of beers currently partnering with Burger Shack. Good crisp fries, smallish portion, and 4 or 5 burgers. I'm a bit torn about the burger - I mean I like it a lot, but one minute the mustard and ketchup overwhelm the meat, the next minute there's a nice balance of sauce, pickle and meat, and possibly best of all the bite of little sauce and more meatiness. The meat is really nice, not sure whether it's the mix of brisket/chuck/bone marrow, or the bone marrow that makes it so beefy, but it's good - the patty was almost dry but didn't taste it, full of flavour. Cheese was the only disappointment, a bit lost in everything else. The bun is advertised as white floured, but was a light tasting brioche.

Purpose: Post-carols treat

Good for: Hot dogs

Verdict: The highlight was the chips, barely skin-on, crispy, goign nicely with the Dalston chillie sauces, the burger not so much. The closest we've come to Perpignan burger kiosk beer soakers, the meat was heavily seared in nature and not particular beef tasting, a bit greasy (in taste, not texture) if anything. A nice touch to build your own, but it didn't really help. Couple of interesting canned beers, and reasonably cheap wtih friendly staff, so not a dead loss.
