Il Fud

Palermo, Sicily

  • Purpose:     Burger Assessment

  • Good for:    Everything

  • Verdict:       Wow. Burgers on the website looked good - unless you're a cow, horse, donkey, buffalo.... so we decided to trek over and have a look, and by golly how happy I was. After doing the oldest Parktun in Italy (and very friendly, grazie Park Uditere!) and walking for 4 hours, I was pretty hungry and that was good because the burger was large. The patty was smaller than the bun, but more than normal size, and tasted good - the whole thing was tasty, with the possible exception of the cheese (Provola) which was a bit drowned out but good textured and held things together well. Chips were actually potato crisps, albeit really nice ones. We also had croquettes which were also very big. Beer and wine choices were excellent. The whole place has gone for a funky right on vibe and it's achieved - and with reasonable prices. What I'd give for the same in London. If you're in Palermo, go (opposite Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio, looks like a restaurant - which it is).

  • Burger:        Big enough for Desperate Dan, a step up from cow pie.

Cheeky Burger

Euston Station - closed, now in Camberwell Street Kensington, as of 26/07/2024

  • Purpose:     Snack before anniversary dinner

  • Good for:    Wishing you'd not booked dinner so you could eat it again

  • Verdict:       Unbelievably two great burgers in succession! After heading to Devonshire Square for a quick bite, we stumbled over Cheeky Burger. Too late for chips (sold out) and no alcohol (probably a good thing after sharing a bottle of wine for breakfast on our anniversary - thanks John O'Connor), the burger still lokked good so I was in. A good char on the patty anf the bun helped the overal taste, nicely enhancing the beef and bun and helpdes along by the ketchup, onion and pickle. Cheese was lovely melty, and the whole effect was not so much cheeky as face slappingly good. I'll definitely be visiting at Broadwater Circle for seconds.
