Burger A La Une

Retirer à St Pierre, Toulouse

  • Purpose:     Burger assessment

  • Good for:    Between mouthful people watching

  • Verdict:       Very appealing look. Bun of a ciabatta nature (which I like, the chewy nature complements burgers if not too chewy) which unfortunately was a big dry which let to breaking up - possibly to be expected in 30 degree heat. Gooey cheese almost a signature addition was good, and tried valiantly to compensate for the bun by holding th meat in. Meat itself was good steak haché mince, tasty if a little salty. Chips were not bad, except for your heart I'd imagine, looking triple cooked three times. Beers and wine available, but they'd run out of rosé, quelle horreur.

  • Burger:       Decent opposition, but not quite there, much like TOXIII (rugby league almost joke)

  • Cost:            £££

Coyote Burger

3 Place Du Peyrou, Toulouse

  • Purpose:     Burger assessment

  • Good for:    Waiting at a bar until they open (19:00 on a Saturday for goodness sake)

  • Verdict:       Best thing about it was the cheese, two types which added flavour to an otherwise not particularly interesting food experience. Meat was a bit thin, well cooked with a pink middle but lost in the bun and cheese. Seeded buns of a bap nature seem popular, and rightly as they do the job mostly pretty well, and normal salad garnish. Chips follow what I'm going to describe as the Toulouse standard, looking and tasting as if they'd been cooked on several occasions. Beer & soft drinks, but despite adverting wine, didn't have any.

  • Burger:       Pretty average. Not upholding French cusine.

  • Cost:            ££
