Bonfire

Barbican centre

  • Purpose:     Post Cinema munching

  • Good for:    60's retro

  • Verdict:       Improvement over the 60's probably, nice fat patty with good colour, let down by being not very tasty - think upmarket catering, in a nondescript bun with some 60's cheese (yellow, gooey, tasteless), lettuce and a pickle based sauce. On the whole not hideous, but not great. Accompanied by some nice crisp fries, and a beer from a good if small selection of London based bottles. Interesting place the Barbican, with views over the lake (but obviously not in the dark). Friendly service.

  • Burger:       It fits in.

Lockhouse

Paddington

  • Purpose:     Burger assessment

  • Good for:    Between train burger desire assuagement

  • Verdict:       Similar to Meat Market but with a well done meat patty, the overall delivery is pretty good - no char, leaving the meat a bit dull, but when the pretty nice sauce isn't obscuring it the cheese works nicely and the lettuce & pickles add something, and the functional bun lasted the course. Hot and crispy fries were good, and there's a goodly beer selection.

  • Burger:       Nice and safe
